Health insurer fined $4.3M for HIPAA violations

 

Earlier this year, health insurer Cignet was fined $4.3M for HIPAA violations related to patient medical records. Health and Human Services Department Secretary Kathleen Sebelius asserted, "[HHS] is serious about enforcing individual rights guaranteed by the HIPAA privacy rule."
